A Shining Light in Richmond

Recipient of Wine Spectator’s ‘Award of Excellence’, Lehja is changing the way that the people of Richmond, Virginia are experiencing Indian food. Reminiscent of some of the more contemporary Indian restaurants lining the streets of London, Lehja is tantalizing locals and tourists alike with cuisine that leaves everyone satisfied and planning a return visit.

The brainchild of Virginia restaurateur Ashok K. Arora and conceptualized and designed by restaurant industry veteran, Chef Mel Oza of the “The Evolved Curry Studio,” the restaurant is endowed with a menu that highlights traditional and popular dishes with a contemporary flair.

With a convenient location, this is an ideal gathering spot for a vast array of diners.  Boasting four unique dining areas, a sophisticated wine storage on the floor of the restaurant and ample al fresco seating highlighted by an open fire pit, this is ideal for a date, family outing, or even a business lunch.

Hit the bar for a cocktail prior to being seated and indulge in one of the many delicious creations including the Rosewater Mojito (Bacardi, rose syrup, soda and mint) or the Snake Charmer (Tres Agaves Tequila, crushed ginger and lime).

Get started on this extraordinary menu with one of the many delicious appetizers like the Fire Cracker Chicken Tikka (ghost chili marinade, roasted in the tandoor oven, served with pickled cucumber ribbo), or the outrageous Coconut Curry Scallops (seared scallops, masala dusted leeks and spiced coconut curry).

With ample vegetarian selections, like the Portablella-Paneer Eggplant “Tournedos” (spiced sesame-eggplant puree and sweet corn-carrot sauté) the menu is equipped to suit many a palate. But for me, entrees like the Aam-Anardana ka Gosht (lamb morsels sautéed with pomegranate seeds, mango, scallions and spice) or the Chai Roasted Chicken, (mushroom-methi cream with herb scented vegetables) are too good to pass up. And let’s not forget to accompany all of this ethnic greatness with a bottle of wine from Lehja’s award-winning selection.

Managing Partner, Sandeep “Sunny” Baweja guides Lehja with a steady hand. He and his team are constantly striving to provide the best dining experience possible and leave their patrons with a memorable experience.
