With New Years Eve only a few weeks away, Champagne is top of mind for many who are excited to celebrate with family and friends. If you are on a budget in this sluggish economy, you can still enjoy a sparkling New Year. For those who cannot splurge on expensive Champagne this year, here are five excellent alternatives that will satisfy your desire for a something bubbly:


Freixenet Sparkling Cordon Negro Brut Cava: You can find this gem for under $10.00 and it’s always an excellent choice. Even those with the most selective taste will enjoy this dry Champagne-like sparkling wine.

Bodegas Naveran Brut Cava 2010: This citrusy sparkler is quite fresh and a wonderful choice. The winemaker even suggests that tasted blind, it’s easy to mistake this for great Champagne. At under $16.00 a bottle, this is a great buy.

Gerard Bertrand 2010 Cremant de Limoux Brut Rose : This beautifully soft salmon colored sparkling wine is quite elegant. A perfect blend that is dominated by Chenin Blanc and Chardonnay, but it’s the Pinot Noir that gives it the attractive color. At under $16 a bottle, this is a great buy.

2007 – Taittinger Domaine Carneros Brut – A fabulous California Sparkling wine that is delightfully dry with just the right amount of fruit. At under $20 this is a good value and an excellent choice for your New Year toast.

Patrick Bottex “La Cueille” Bugey Cerdon Rosé – A sparkling Rose from France that delivers a Champagne-like vibrancy with just a touch of sweetness. This is tremendous buy at under $20.
