Casa D’Angelo, Italian Perfection in South Florida

Casa D'AngeloTraditional southern Italian food can be one of the most satisfying dining experiences, especially when the venue, the quality of ingredients and the service all align.

My favorite Tuscan style restaurant in South Florida, Casa D’Angelo, provides all three of these with perfect attention to every detail. The restaurant’s décor is clean and modern, yet welcoming at the same time. Upon arrival, the staff was immediately attentive and continued to provide outstanding service throughout our meal.meatballs and sausage

With so many incredible sounding choices, we relied on our waiter’s knowledge and he recommended that we start with one of the special appetizers consisting of meatballs, homemade sausage and eggplant with a traditional red sauce. It was a delicious start and the homemade sausage and sauce were truly exceptional.

Our next course was Porcini Mushroom Risotto, also a special of the day.  Rich and creamy, the risotto was thoughtfully finished with truffle oil and topped with a tangy Parmesan Reggiano cheese.  My photographer commented that she would gladly return for lunch to enjoy this dish again with a salad and a glass of wine.

bucatini amatricianaEvery Southern Italian restaurant has their special pasta dishes, and for me the “Best of the Best” is the Bucatini Amaticiana con Pomodoro Fresco, which is pasta resembling a drinking straw, prepared with fresh tomato, sweet onions and pancetta. As a lover of this dish, I have sampled it often, in various restaurants, but Casa D’Angelo’s version of this classic, with a soulfully delicious sauce, wins hands down.

Next it was on to the meat courses, which included Lamb Chops with broccoli rabe and a daily special of Veal Scallopini with homemade sausage.  Once again, both were executed perfectly and we enjoyed every savory bite.

Our tasting would not have been complete without a fish course and so we sampled another Casa D’Angelo personal favorite, the Branzino, which was filleted and served with a white wine and caper sauce that complemented the fish beautifully.

Attention to every detail is reflective of Owner Chef Angelo Elia’s commitment to “Tutto su gli ingredient,” which means it is all about the ingredients.  From the quality of the bread, to the outstanding olive oil, to every cut of meat and garden fresh vegetables, to the delicious coffee, care is taken to create a memorable dining experience. He has created an award-winning menu and wine list, and prides himself on having the best Italian restaurant in South Florida.

Every year, Chef Elia has been honored with the “Best of Award of Excellence” from Wine Spectator. He has also received the “Golden Spoon Award” from Florida Trend Magazine for the past 10 consecutive years.dessert plate

Of course, dessert is a must at Casa D’Angelo with all of the tempting homemade sweets.  Whether your preference is Italian Ricotta Cheesecake, Apple Tart with homemade Cinnamon or Vanilla Ice Cream, or our personal “STAR,” the amazing Tiramisu, all were a delicious finish to a wonderful meal.
