It is October and the season for witches, goblins and super heroes of all ages to start their candy cravings, since Halloween is that one time a year that we all presumably get permission to indulge.
In thinking about Seasonal Saturday for this coming week, as I am watching the beautiful colors emerging on the trees, I remembered a favorite treat for the Halloween season. This is a recipe that will appeal to “kids” of all ages, so ENJOY and remember a milk “mustache” is required as accompaniment.
HALLOWEEN COOKIE PIZZA
¼ C . packed light brown sugar
1 Tbl. water
1 Tsp. real vanilla extract
1-1/4 C. all-purpose flour
½ Tsp. baking soda
¼ Tsp. salt
1 C. REESE’S Peanut Butter Chips
1 C. miniature marshmallow
½ C. semi sweet or milk chocolate chips (depending on preference)
½ C. pecans (optional)
CHOCOLATE DRIZZLE AND ORANGE DRIZZLE
Heat oven to 350 degrees F. Lightly grease or spray 12- inch round pizza pan
- In a mixer, beat brown sugar and butter until creamy. Add egg, water and vanilla. Beat well. In a large bowl stir flour, baking soda and salt. Beat into sugar mixture on low speed until well blended . Stir in peanut butter chips with a spatula. Spread batter onto prepared pan to within ½ inch of edge.
- Bake 11 to 13 minutes until set. Remove from oven. Sprinkle marshmallows, chocolate chips and pecans evenly over the top. Return to oven for 5 to 7 minutes until marshmallows are lightly browned. Cool completely.
- Prepare Chocolate and Orange Drizzle. Drizzle Chocolate Drizzle over the top and then the Orange Drizzle crisscross over the Chocolate. Let stand for one hour until drizzles set. Cut into wedges.
CHOCOLATE DRIZZLE: In a microwave safe bowl, place ¼ C. Chocolate Chips and 1-1/2 Tsps. butter. Microwave at 50% power for one minute, stir and keep for 15-second intervals until chips are melted and can be drizzled.
ORANGE DRIZZLE: Stir together ½ C. confectionary sugar, 1 Tbs. water, 3 drops of yellow food coloring and 2 drops of red food coloring. Stir until blended.
