Mango Mojito

Mango, the most popular fruit in the world, is considered the King of Fruits in India. Ancient Hindu writings reference the mango fruit as “food of the Gods.” In India, the mango fruit tree is considered a symbol of health and fertility.

Varieties of mangoes available include Alfonzo, Paayri, Tothapuri, Dasheri and Landga. Alfonzo, the most famous and expensive is a delicious addition to any drink and an absolute pleasure on the palate. Mangoes are versatile fruits that are consumed in many different ways. Let’s talk about one of our favorite ways to consume a mango… in a cocktail!

The juice and pulp that is extracted from mangoes can be used to prepare wonderfully refreshing drinks that help you cool off in the summer and relax with your friends. If working with a fresh, whole mango sounds a little too labor intensive, we recommend Maya mango puree and pulp which is available at all Indian grocery stores.

Mango Mohito
2 ounces of mango infused rum
½ ounce of club soda
½ ounce mango juice/puree
Fresh mint leaves
1 lime, cut into small wedges
Ice cubes

In a drink glass, muddle a few mint leaves with a couple of lime wedges. Add ice, the mango rum, mango juice/puree and club soda. Gently stir, garnish with a lime wedge and a mint sprig.

• Chill the glasses in the freezer before making your drinks.
• Use fresh pulp, puree and juice when possible.
