Where to celebrate Mother’s Day in NYC 2013

Mother’s Day is a great time to show your mom appreciation by treating her to a lovely brunch.  New York City has many choices, but we have highlighted a few of our favorites that are particularly special.

Here are 5 great choices for Mother's Day in New York City:

If you are heading to the Lower East Side, Dinner on Ludlow serves up Executive Chef John Keller’s modern adaptation of American comfort food.  The brunch choices are both innovative and nostalgic and are made with the freshest ingredients at affordable prices.  The restaurant is designed to be both open and inviting, with dark wood and crystal chandeliers. We would be hard pressed to choose between: the Eggs Benedict made with two poached eggs on an an english muffin, with pork belly confit and yuzu béarnaise, or the Cornflake Crusted French Toast with dulce de leche syrup, whipped cream and strawberries, Yum!  Since it is Mother’s Day, why not try both!

Brunch is served on Saturday and Sunday from 11:30 am until 4 pm.

We head down to the opposite end of the east side to Celebrity Chef Marcus Samuelson’s Red Rooster Harlem for his take on American comfort food.  A great choice is a delish Soft Shell Crab Sandwich or a Bibb Lettuce Salad with fava beans, asparagus and deviled eggs.  Save room for dessert and enjoy the Chocolate Strawberry Mousse Tart all prepared with Chef Marcus’s special touch. Be sure to toast mom with the Uptown Bloody Mary garnished with pickled veggies.

Brunch is served from 10 am until 3 pm.

One of our personal favorites is Park Avenue Spring.  A restaurant that changes it’s persona and menu with the seasons. Mom is sure to enjoy the charming décor reminiscent of an English garden, and we know the whole family will love the delicious food that highlights the best of spring produce.

This season Chef Kevin Lasko has created some amazing dishes including a Roasted Baby Beet Salad with Pistachio Pesto and Danish Blue Cheese and a Smoked Salmon Bucatini with a Wasabi Caviar and Crème Fraiche all served with gourmet breads and sweet pastries.

We could go on and on with all the wonderful choices, but please don’t leave without sampling a mouthwatering dessert such as Fresh Blackberries with Rice Pudding Fritters or Caramel Roasted Golden Pineapple.

If seafood is mom’s choice, the BR Guest restaurant brand really delivers great quality and service at both the east and west side locations. The Mother’s Day brunch gives you a choice of both brunch or lunch dishes and it is always hard to decide which way to go.

Try the Crab Cake BLT or the Eggnog Stuffed Brioche French Toast with Candied Oranges or if mom prefers a salad, the Seared Tuna Nicoise. The Lemon Brulee Tart is a delicious dessert choice. The brunch prices include a Bloody Mary, Screwdriver, Bellini, Mimosa, or sparkling wine as part of your meal.

Move on to the incredible antipastos, or perhaps a course of Chef Michael’s homemade pasta – dishes are all paired with the perfect wine choices.

We suggest the Seared Scallops with seasonal fiddlehead ferns, Marcona almonds and polenta or the Salsa Verde Crusted Halibut with garbanzo beans and potatoes. And since the Chef’s way with pasta is legend, the Ferratini with Duck Ragu and Marsala wine.
