| August 29, 2014

le midiIn the south of France, food is a religion and the Midi region is one of the country’s best culinary centers. In every village and town around the region, country restaurants and lively bistros serve delicious traditional French food.

Now you can enjoy the charm and culinary classics of the Midi right in New York City. Le Midi, located in Union Square, brings a classic French Bistro experience to the New York restaurant scene.  The intimate atmosphere gives lovers of classic French food a special place to enjoy a  mouth-watering menu with the freshest of ingredients. La Midi takes freshness seriously and gives each traditional dish its own magical modern twist. Already a neighborhood treasure, La Midi has captured a plethora of loyal fans including celebrities like Katie Couric.

Choosing the most special dishes is difficult, since all of what we sampled was consistently outstanding.  But there are of course the MUSTS: starting with the rich, exceptional onion soup with it flavorful veal broth, and the Frisee Salad aux Lardons, topped with a perfectly poached egg and superb vinaigrette.  Some other favorites were the perfectly cooked seared diver sea scallops served with celeriac puree & lemon caper butter and the yummy mushroom raviolis.

If you are a traditionalist, you MUST try the Coq Au Vin and the Steak Frites accompanied by a couple of the incredibily fresh, perfectly cooked side vegetables.

Le Midi also offers an excellent wine list both by the glass and bottle at popular prices.  Be sure to ask your server for the perfect pairing choices.

le midiOur next trip back will be to enjoy LeMidi’s delicious brunch featuring assorted specialties from the South of France.  Hope to see you there.
