Spirits and Slices

Earlier this month, team DFW headed out to Cobble Hill, Brooklyn where Krescendo restaurant and Distillerie Fratelli Branca hosted a competition called Spirits and Slices —a pizza and cocktail pairing competition.

On this special evening some of New York's top mixologists competed using a fine array of libations including  Candolini Grappa Bianca, Candolini Grappa Ruta, Caffe Borghetti and/or Sambuca Borghetti to pair with one of Krescendo's signature pizzas. Competitors each had their turn behind the bar to take a crack at the grand prize —$250 cash and a custom Fernet-Branca beach cruiser.

The judges included Chef Elizabeth Falkner (Krescendo and Top Chef) and Ian Wolff (Spirits Editor for La Cucina Italiana Magazine, who had the pleasure of tasting a truly impressive array of over-the-top ingredients as they were magically transformed to create the perfect pairing for these delicious pizza creations.spirits and slices by Eliza Czander 3

Ultimately it was mix master Frank Nobiletti from Maialino who emerged victorious and gathered the spoils —a memorable evening highlighted by extraordinary and memorable cocktails and pizza that truly pushed the boundaries.
