| October 8, 2012

The definition of a Foodie has long been a topic for debate and with the explosive growth of food television and social media, it is being tossed around more than ever. The term ‘Foodie’ is thought to be often over-used and at times abused, as it seems to be a descriptor for many different types diners and eaters alike. Some believe a Foodie to be an expert in the field or someone who has a supreme palate. Perhaps a gourmet, Foodies are often thought of as those who only partake in fine dining, or gourmet cooking.

We believe a Foodie can enjoy all types of dining from a fantastic food truck to an incredible fine dining experience. Our favorite formal definition is the one according to the Collins English Dictionary: a foodie or sometimes spelled foody, is a person having an enthusiastic interest in the preparation and consumption of good food. To add to that, at Daily Food & Wine, we suggest a Foodie is simply a person who lives to eat as opposed to one who eats to live.
